The Diary: January 2001

A lot quieter than the previous two years - the bar certainly was an empty place this month! It does pick up eventually...
So quiet this month that there was no Bar night either! The next one being right at the start of February...

A change of direction
These empty months are misconceiving- it did not mean we were shut all month- we had smaller events (i.e. open for a couple of hours then down to pub, etc.). These had been going on right through from day one of the bar (well you can't do bar nights every weekend!).
As we moved into 2001 the bar became much more a clubbing warm up venue for our growing collection of clubbers. The music direction shifted towards much more dance, trance & house and away from the overplayed cheesy stuff (which we'd done to death over two years!).
We had to shrink our range of drinks and generally be more efficient to cope with the lower volume of people. Of course it did often cause problems for those people returning from university to visit the bar- only to find we have less drinks & different music!
The rapid expansion of the bar (i.e. more drinks, lights & other stuff) became a trickle- with a reduction in drinks and only slow expansion in other areas. It did get fairly frustrating at times- but luckily things did pick up a bit later in the year...
